“DHI’s Families Also Matter service supported me through the worst days of my life; my son James was dying as a result of his alcohol addiction, despite his best efforts to overcome it.
“In James’ last days, I was able to be compassionate, giving unconditional love and accepting of all that was happening. In many ways, this has helped me in my grief which, although profound, is not punctuated with regrets and wishing that I had done something differently. For James to die with some dignity in a room full of love was the absolute best I could do for him.
“DHI couldn’t change the situation but they helped me to be the best I could at that awful time; through counselling, friendship and constant support. I’m grateful for that help and for the help that I continue to receive now.”
