Peers

We are at the forefront of developing lived experience services using peers and our peer programme sits at the very heart of what we do.

What is a peer?

A peer is someone who uses their own experience to help others going through similar situations. Our peers are people in recovery from problematic drug or alcohol use, and they can help people in many ways - from supporting someone going through detox to providing a buddying service. Peers provide support across the areas we work.

Our peers are involved in many different roles depending on their own experiences and some of their work includes:

  • Promoting positive recovery in the community through placements at other organisations such as community centres, detox units, and housing services
  • Delivering treatment groups alongside recovery workers
  • Running dedicated support groups for DHI clients
  • Running a mystery shopping service to help DHI get vital feedback from people who know our services best
  • Using their experience to inform the development of services both within DHI and the wider community, including the BBC and Avon and Somerset Police

Would you like to become a DHI peer?

If you are interested in using your own experiences to help other people turn their lives around we would love to hear from you. Speak to your support worker or email info@dhi-online.org.uk
