Home Turf Lettings (HTL) was set up in 2012 by Bath based charity, Developing Health & Independence (DHI), in response to the growing housing crisis in the West of England area. Since then, they have housed more than 250 homeless or vulnerably housed people who would not otherwise have been able to get into the private rental sector, in Bath & North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bristol.
Rosie Phillips, DHI’s Chief Executive, said: “Home Turf Lettings is one of DHI’s proudest achievements over our nearly 20 year history. In 2012, we could see that many of our clients, and others, were struggling to find stable housing and this was causing more issues. DHI has always been a creative and innovative charity, so we looked for a creative and innovative way to help tackle this issue, and founded Home Turf Lettings.”
Home Turf Lettings runs a number of schemes which make renting out to people on benefits a more attractive option for private landlords. They run a guaranteed rent programme which means that there is no risk to the landlord of non payment of rent, and means that tenants do not have to pay large amounts up front. Their Empty Homes Scheme delivers grant funding to owners of empty homes to bring them back into use in exchange for a guarantee that it will be let through Home Turf Lettings for a minimum of five years afterwards.
One of Home Turf Lettings’ recent successes has been delivering a programme where they have housed over 70 Syrian refugees.
